Hello wonderful colleagues,
It was great getting to talk with many of you earlier today at the school-wide meeting. Things change and move fast, and our cadence of communication thus far hasn't been enough. This is the first of a monthly email. Each month, I'll provide updates about things that have happened or are coming up.
School-wide meeting
In today's meeting, I shared some updates about where we're at: enrollment, staff/faculty numbers, research expenditures, budget, and strategic goals.
Strategic planning
Thank you to many who participated in the discovery phase of the strategic planning process with Mapt. Your input is invaluable.
I'm excited where we're heading with this process. With the insights we've discovered, we're ready to move into the planning phase. We want to ensure that Luddy builds on its strong foundation as the university works toward implementing the IU 2030 strategic plan.
Community and Culture Taskforce inventory
This summer we created a new task force to provide recommendations for Luddy's DEI plans. I look forward to seeing the recommendations to ensure that we create a culture of belonging in Luddy.
The team is inventorying current DEI programs or activities. If you lead a program or activity related to DEI or improving community and culture, please complete the survey.

New CS department in Indianapolis
I'm so excited about the newest department in Luddy: CS in Indianapolis. There is a strong need in Indiana for more computer scientists, and we want to train the next generation with that focus on the social responsibility. There is plenty more to come in this area as we plan to welcome the first year of students in the department in fall 2024.
Finally, as we begin a new school year, I want to say a huge thank you for all your hard work. We have 5,764 students across both campuses. What an incredible accomplishment!
But in the midst of celebrating our success, I also want to remind you to take care of yourself. Your mental wellbeing is imperative.
It's ok to slow down. To take a breath. To take care of yourself. Please take this glorious weekend to relax and enjoy.
You have access to support resources through the university, like the Employee Assistance Program. Or you can talk to our incredible HR staff if you need help finding a resource.
Until next time,
Joanna Millunchick
